You're Gonna Miss This! - Birthdays!

Last year after seeing the cutest photo on Pinterest, I decided I would start photographing each of my kids around their birthday and adding their favorite things to each photo. It is such a great way to remember their favorite things at each age, and for me it has also worked out great to use as part of their birthday party invitation (their birthdays are four days apart so we can get away with one party for now!).

Here is what we have done for birthday invites the last 2 yrs (thank you Alana!) and added to their memory books to look back on:

You're Gonna Miss This - Part Four

The other morning my two year-old daughter came running into the room with her play phone, "Daddy, Daddy, the phone is for you!" When my husband asked who was on the phone, she replied, "It's Jake...from State Farm!" We both just died laughing. Kids say the darndest things and as the time flies by it is hard to remember all the funny things they say and do. A great way to ensure you don't forget, is to keep a notebook in a handy place and jot things down as they happen. Later you can look back and add them to your memory books, scapbooks, and keepsakes boxes. Here are a few of our favorites:

"Daddy, when I grow up I'm going to have a beard like you. Right now, I just have a beard on my legs."

"Mom, lets talk about mans. Who is your favorite man?"

"When I grow up, am I going to be a daddy?"

"Yes"

"Awww, man! I thought I was going to be a farmer."

"I'm gonna live with you guys forever!"

"Mom, I think I have a fever."

"You don't feel hot."

"Yeah, but my farts are hot."

You're Gonna Miss This - Part Two!

While going through all the different ideas for Back 2 School photos, I came across several ideas where the parents included what the child wanted to be when they grew up. I thought it would be fun to include in or memory book each year and wanted to take it a step further with a photo shoot! I asked my son what he wanted to be when he grew up. He went back and forth between Wildlife Explorer, Veterinarian, and Petting Zoo owner before finally deciding on Wildlife Explorer. I let him know we were going to be doing a photo shoot and his face lit up. He immediately ran to his room and began selecting "props" for our photoshoot. Shortly after our discussion, I found a pile of snakes, lizards, and stuffed creatures at the front door. He even picked out his own outfit for the shoot! (As you will see from the previous post...this is his favorite "dressed up" outfit at the moment). I grabbed my camera and the Panda Shutter Hugger and we headed to our local "forest".

This shoot was so much fun. He not only posed all of his animals but he would then pose himself and say "Mom, get a picture of this!" I will not only cherish the photos we got but the memory of him directing the shoot as a Great Wildlife Explorer! Here are a few shots from our shoot:
